There’s nothing lovelier during the summer months than a garden alive with vibrant colour and patterns. Whether you prefer to go big on one particular colour or go for a multi-colour, rainbow approach, there’s no doubt that a garden bursting with gorgeous, colourful flowers is eye-catchingly beautiful. There are so many ways in which you can bring colours and patterns into your outdoor space, it’s a fab way to really let your individual style and personality shine through.
There are several wonderful outdoor plant options in our range to bring an instant pop of colour to your outdoor space. For beautiful, long-lasting outdoor plants with flowers, check out our Betulia Garden Bundle. These British grown beauties are available in red, light pink or dark pink. They add a burst of colour in whatever shade suits you best. They are super easy to care for and versatile too, so if you’re new to gardening these could well be your choice of floral friends.
Another super option is our Hydrangea Garden Bundle in pink or blue. Hydrangeas are understandably a popular choice for summer gardens. This bundle features two stunning, British-grown mophead Hydrangeas which boast large, colourful clusters of blooms to brighten up your garden. They will arrive partially in bloom, allowing you to watch their joyous transformation into full bloom. And, if you choose to plant them in your garden, you will enjoy new growth year-on-year, fabulous!
One of the easiest ways to add a bright burst of colour to your garden, perfect for the summer months, is with our British Begonia Bundle. These six plants will arrive in bloom, in a stunning array of colours for an instant garden transformation. Simply pop them in your garden, either in their pots or planted into a nice shady spot, add water and you will be rewarded with beautiful blooms lasting all summer long.
If you’re loving all of the outdoor plant range options we’ve featured in this section so far and just can’t choose between them, do not worry – you don’t have to! Our Garden XL Bundle could well be the option for you. This features all of the flowering beauties mentioned here, as well as a duo of fabulous Lupins. The Bundle really does contain everything you need to transform your garden into an oasis of colour with ease.
Here at TLB, we love the trend of making your outdoor space an extension of your indoors. A fab way to really maximise those outdoor living room vibes is to accessorise your floral foliage with extra texture and patterns! We just love an outdoor rug to help achieve this, there are so many available now in any number of colours and patterns to suit your style. One of our favourites is this Diamond Key Pattern Reversible Rug from Rockett St. George. The monochrome colour scheme will bring timeless elegance to your space and will tone perfectly with any florals that you choose. We also love the fact that this rug allows you to change things up a bit as the mood takes you thanks to its reversible feature!
Create a Picture-Perfect Patio
If you love a spot of garden entertaining during the summer, your patio could well be an integral part of your outdoor space; the ideal place to create an outdoor living and dining area perfect for your guests to chill out and soak up the alfresco atmosphere.
Patios, by their nature, can lack a feeling of warmth because they are of course laid in stone or concrete which are not particularly tactile materials. However, it’s so simple to soften the space and make it an inviting area for you and your guests to enjoy.
This pair of sensational West Country Lupins can grow up to 1m tall so pop them in a sunny spot on your patio for the ultimate floral wow factor. These gorgeous patio plants will arrive green and give you quite the show as they come into fabulous full bloom. Their flowers are oh-so-unusual and beautiful and will last all summer long.
If you’re looking to inject some serious style to your patio décor, look no further than this super chic Buxus Ball Duo. The distinctive round shape and glossy evergreen leaves will instantly upgrade your exterior style.
Pair them with this wonderfully elegant Black Metal Garden Table & Chairs to leave your guests swooning. And, what’s more, they’re incredibly easy to look after too; equally happy in shade or sun and they’ll only need a trim every few months. You can relax and enjoy your garden parties without any plant care distractions.
On the subject of garden parties, why not show your visitors you mean business by adding some gorgeous soft furnishings for a patio full of personality and style. Here at TLB, we love to see outdoor furniture adorned with throws and cushions. For those times when you’re really in the mood for a party, why not add this quirky Garden Party Sign to your patio along with this Outdoor Drinks Trolley, a sophisticated and practical addition to make hosting oh so easy.
Create a Kitchen Garden
Make summer entertaining a breeze by creating your very own outdoor kitchen garden. It’s relatively simple, if you have a bit of spare space, to grow fruit and veg like strawberries, tomatoes and even courgettes in your garden during the summer. We think it’s a fab idea to also consider including some herbs in your outdoor space. Not only are they super useful for the keen chefs among you, but what could be easier and tastier than having freshly grown herbs at your fingertips? They also add a fab injection of texture and interest to your outdoor space as well as being a treat for your nose, bringing delectable, fragrant scents to your garden.
Have a look at our fab Outdoor Herb Mix, a selection of 6 or 10 popular herbs to brighten your outdoor space and your cooking! These wonderfully versatile herb mixes arrive ready to be potted – dot them around your garden or plant them into window boxes, planters or borders – whatever works best for your space. They also make excellent balcony plants!
Alternatively, if you love the idea of a little herb garden but are limited on space, our Plantbox Outdoor Living Walls with Herbs are a fab solution. Available as a set of 5 or 10 troughs, they are a great space saving option and can make a lovely feature against a garden wall; providing a feast for the eyes, nose and mouth! What’s more, the Plantbox living wall system is super clever with a built-in watering solution; each trough can hold enough water to keep the herbs happy for a week or two, making them oh-so-easy to look after, perfect!
If you have a smaller garden, we think a brilliant style idea to help create an illusion of more space is to add a gorgeous outdoor mirror to a garden wall. Here at Team TLB, we just love this Matt Black Window Pane Mirror, which is sure to add some space-enhancing charm.
Attract the Bees
The importance of looking after the bee population has been a hot topic in recent years. The population of many species of bees is in decline which is a worrying situation. As pollinators, they are vital to the continued survival of certain flowers, plants and crops – without them many types of fruits, nuts and berries would not exist!
The good news is that we can all do our bit by committing to plant some bee-friendly plants and flowers in our gardens. Our beautifully packaged Seedboms, the Beebom and the Wildbom, are a simple way to make a difference and help save the bees. Simply scatter the mix of seeds in your garden and before long you’ll have a beautiful burst of vibrant flowers growing in your garden, attracting lots of busy bees and other pollinators. Scatter these seeds between March and June to see them flower this summer or between August and October for next year.
Do you love the idea of attracting little garden visitors? If so, make your garden a little haven for wildlife by not only scattering our seedboms, but also delighting your little winged visitors too with this decorative (and useful!) Two Little Birds Ceramic Bird Bath.
We hope this blog has given you plenty of outdoor plant inspiration for your summer garden transformation. It’s time to embrace National Gardening Week – get ready to start digging and planting – you’ll be so glad you did once the sun starts shining and you’ll be ready to relax and enjoy it!
As always, if you have any questions about any of the outdoor plants featured this week please do get in touch at [email protected]. And do tag us on insta; @thelittlebotanical once your outdoor space is all summer ready – we’d love to see your gardens in all their summer glory.
