I love to travel! You can place me near a trellis to watch me climb or put me in a hangar and i’ll make wonderful trails!

Bring a touch of timeless greenery into your home with the classic English Ivy (Hedera) - one of the most iconic trailing houseplants. Loved for its versatility and natural beauty, this hardy plant thrives both indoors and outdoors. Whether you let it cascade elegantly from a hanging planter or train it to climb a trellis, it’s guaranteed to add instant charm to your space.

This trailing beauty arrives at a total height of 20-25cm, making it the perfect size to style on a shelf, windowsill, or in a statement hanger where its vines can tumble gracefully.

Perfect for new plant parents, English Ivy is wonderfully adaptable and resilient. It tolerates lower light conditions, yet will happily climb towards brighter spots, making it suitable for almost any home. And there’s more - this clever plant is also one of the best air-purifying houseplants, helping to filter out mould spores, formaldehyde, and other toxins, leaving your home feeling fresher and healthier.

With its fast-growing nature and incredible ability to grip and spread, English Ivy makes a brilliant choice for anyone looking to create a lush green feature wall or fill a space with trailing foliage. It’s a real statement plant, yet easy to care for with just a little love and attention.

Care

Always let your ivy plant dry out before watering it by checking the top layers of soil. If it feels moist, wait a couple more days before watering it.

While the English Ivy prefers to remain dry and will thrive in the shade, the plant is adaptable to both shade and sun, so you can be flexible with where you place it. However, it grows best in partial shade.

This plant benefits from regular fertilising in spring, summer and autumn. Use a generic houseplant feed around once a month to keep it healthy. You don’t need to fertilise your plant in the winter, as this is the plant’s dormant period.

English Ivy (Hedera helix) FAQ

Q: How often should I water English Ivy?

A: Keep the soil lightly moist, like a wrung-out sponge. Water when the top inch feels dry—your ivy will thank you!

Q: What light conditions does English Ivy prefer?

A: English Ivy loves bright, indirect light. It can handle a bit of shade, but too little light slows its charming growth.

Q: What temperature range is ideal for English Ivy?

A: Aim for a comfy 15–21°C. Keep it away from radiators, heaters, or chilly drafts to keep it happy.

Q: How do I prune English Ivy?

A: Snip away long or leggy stems to encourage bushy, vibrant growth. Think of it like giving your ivy a haircut—it thrives on a little TLC!

Q: Is English Ivy toxic to pets?

A: Yes, it’s not pet-friendly if eaten. Keep it out of reach of curious paws and little hands.

Q: How do I propagate English Ivy?

A: Snip a healthy stem and pop it in water or moist soil. In a few weeks, you’ll see roots, ready for a new leafy friend.

Q: Does English Ivy need fertilising?

A: Treat it to a monthly feed during spring and summer with a gentle, balanced fertiliser. It can take a break in autumn and winter.

Q: Can English Ivy grow outdoors?

A: Absolutely! It’s a versatile climber or ground cover in temperate gardens. Just watch out for harsh frost.

Q: How do I prevent pests on English Ivy?

A: Keep an eye out for spider mites and aphids. Wiping the leaves and an occasional spritz of insecticidal soap usually does the trick.

Q: How often should I repot English Ivy?

A: Every 1–2 years or when roots get snug. Choose a slightly bigger pot with good drainage, and it’ll keep thriving.
