About English Ivy plants
English ivy (Hedera helix) is a well-known and widely loved plant, whether in the wild or in our homes.
Ivy species are grown all around the world, native all the way from Western Europe, Central Europe, Southern Europe, Macaronesia to northwestern Africa and across central-southern Asia east to Japan and Taiwan.
On level ground Ivy rarely exceeds 5–20 cm in height, but on suitable climbing surfaces some species they have been known to climb 30m above the ground (towards the sun).
