The Little Botanical is 4!

We are 4. Whoop Whoop! We couldn’t be more excited that it’s our 4th birthday, what a brilliant whirlwind of a journey we’ve been on since we launched back in 2017 and we couldn’t be prouder of the team who’ve helped shape and grow us into the brand we are today.

To mark our birthday, we’d love to tell you a little bit about that journey.

Rewind to November 2017 when Morag and Greg Hill co-founded the brand. With years of experience in horticulture and design, Morag and Greg had a vision to bring beautifully packaged, low maintenance, easy-care house plants to customers wishing to add effortless green style to their interiors, whether they be green-fingered aficionados or budding newbie plant parents. The Little Botanical was born.

A curated range of houseplants and succulents

Back at the beginning, our range was much smaller than what we see today, we launched with a carefully chosen selection of easy-care succulents and low maintenance houseplants in our signature black and gold-dipped ceramics and textured grey pots. We’re pleased to say that we must have got something right because these timeless beauties, including our gorgeously spiky Miranda succulent and our beautifully elegant Parlour Palm, are still some of our most popular buys among you lovely plant people today.

Right from the start, we were committed to providing a complete style solution; it is a pet hate of ours to see these gorgeous green beauties in ill-fitting pots or worse, just in the plastic! That’s why all of our leafy friends are delivered to your door, pre-styled in perfectly fitting, gorgeous pots for effortless, beautiful, green-filled interiors.

The Little Botanical launches Big Botanicals

Before too long, it became clear that to really be able to bring to life the indoor jungle dreams of our growing tribe of house plant fans, we needed to expand. We realised that there was a desire among you lovely lot to really dial up the green vibes in your home and jump on a growing interior trend with big statement plants. And so, in 2018, The Little Botanical launched a Big Botanical range; large and extra-large green beauties in our bespoke, stylish seagrass and cotton belly baskets for that added wow factor in your corner of greenery.

There’s an abundance of choice within this larger range; big leaves, spiky leaves, all the green shades, you’re sure to find one that makes exactly the style statement you’re after. If you’re in need of a little inspiration, our top four are the Areca Palm for a funky, tropical vibe, the Fiddle Leaf Fig for a gorgeous, leafy interior, the Bird of Paradise for a beautiful, bold statement and the Ficus Elastica for an oh so stylish flair. Measuring up to 1.5m, it’s no mean feat delivering these big beauties, ready planted in a gorgeous ceramic or belly basket, straight to your door. But ever keen for a challenge, our brilliant team brought this vision to life and you guys love them!

Time continued to march on and we continued to grow. At every stage, we have been committed to bringing you, our lovely customers, stylish plant solutions with absolutely no hassle whatsoever. This is why, in 2019, we were first to market with plant bundles; not one, not two, but a whole gang of plants delivered straight to your door, making it super easy to shop the range and removing any need for you to have to grapple with that difficult task of decision making!

With our plant bundles, we wanted to bring you ready-made, completely hassle-free green style solutions for specific needs or areas within your home. All the plants arrive in our bespoke pots (of course, we know you have come to expect nothing less!), but more than that, we have chosen plants that together work well and look fab; win-win. We have created a wide range of perfectly partnered plant gangs, among our favourites are the Plant Shelfie, the My Home Bundle and the Pet-Friendly Bundle, not forgetting, one of our all-time favourites; the Plant Gang for Newbie Plant Parents.

Marble Trend

2019 proved to be a busy year in the world of keeping you plant lovers happy. With ever a watchful eye on interior design trends, in late 2019, team TLB designed and launched The Marble Collection. This was our first foray into plant stands and interior designed pieces and we love it! We think the gorgeous greenery just pops against the white marble ceramics and plant stands add another dimension to your beautiful plant displays with the ability to create different heights as well as textures.

We know that the colours and styles of the ceramics we offer play a huge part in making sure you can keep your interiors bang on trend and we want to make sure we always have a great choice of ceramics so you can choose something that’s just right for your personal style. So, along the way we have introduced different colour combos from our stunning green and gold edit to spread a little joy at Christmas-time to our oh so pretty pink and copper ceramics for a super, summery vibe. Having said that, our Pretty Pink Plant Gang is a firm favourite all year round.

Stunning metallic tones are an interior trend that we couldn’t fail to notice here at TLB HQ and seeing how fabulous greens and metallic hues look together, we got to work on The Copper Collection. When designing this collection our focus was on creating unique, chic and stylish pieces to really upscale your interiors and so was borne the Copper Trio Succulent House and the Copper House Gang.

More recently, as here at team TLB we have excitedly dipped our toe into homewares for the first time, this collection has evolved to include our plant table. This absolutely stunning accessory combines gorgeous copper tones with sustainable Mango Wood for the perfect blend of chic and rustic. Your green beauties will look oh-so-perfect atop this gorgeous table.

Biophilic Design

A design trend that is going wild right now is Biophilic design. For the ultimate plant lover, there really is no bigger or bolder way to bring the outdoors in so we knew this was a trend we had to get behind. Here at TLB, we have sourced the most stunning range of Living Walls and Living Art. These pieces will allow you to create the ultimate indoor jungle, simply oozing natural, calming vibes.

Sustainable Mango wood

We all know that wood is such a lovely addition to your plant scape, with its innate natural qualities adding some gorgeous rustic texture. Keen to expand our homewares and accessories offerings, we sought, in early 2021 to bring the plant lovers among us the ability to introduce wood into your plant displays in the most sustainable way; if you haven’t come across it before, let us introduce you to the stunning and sustainable Mango Wood Collection. Mango Wood is not only responsibly sourced, it is also hard-wearing, water-resistant and did we mention beautiful?

The Mango Wood plant coasters make the perfect addition to a coffee table or kitchen island. So just pop your TLB potted plants on them to protect your surface and add a little height. Available in small or medium, these coaster sets are perfectly sized for houseplants or succulents. Or why not use them as drink coasters for your favourite tipple.

Homewares & Plant Accessories are here

As we mentioned earlier, having dipped our toe into homewares with the launch of our plant table, this year has seen us fully take the plunge in this area. We are committed to providing our plant-loving fans, not only with their gorgeous, ready-potted green beauties but also everything they need to look after and maintain them too. And in true TLB fashion, our homewares and plant accessories do, obviously, have to be oh so fabulous as well as functional. So earlier this year we launched our collection of copper and antique gold watering cans and misters. Even if we do say so ourselves, they are simply stunning and way too beautiful to be relegated to the cupboard. They complement our signature copper or antique gold accented pots perfectly and look fabulous nestled among your potted succulents – ready and waiting to keep the humidity high on your moisture-loving plants.

Our Plants and Our Team

Here at Team TLB, we believe it’s so important to ensure we’re constantly evaluating our impact on the planet and we can now proudly say that 70% of our houseplant range is grown on our own nursery on the south coast of England. This means that the plants you receive are super high quality and fabulously fresh and we use fewer miles to get them to your door.

And it’s not just the plants that have been growing, our team is growing too. We have a brilliant team of hugely experienced growers, we’re all very slightly potty about plants and love a chat. So please do get in touch at [email protected] or even give us a call on 01243 76240. We’d love to help you with any plant-based query you may have. If you have any questions at all about what plant would best suit your space, what size you should choose or where you should place them, we would be more than happy to help.

What’s Next?

Not ones to rest on our laurels, we are happily exploring lots of new ideas and innovations for you lovely plant people and we have more than a few exciting plans for the coming year that we cannot wait to share. We can’t say more than that at the moment, you’ll just have to watch this space.

For now, we’ll finish with a big happy birthday to us and a huge thank you to you for supporting us on our journey. Many happy returns to TLB – here’s to the next 4 years of growing!

Love Team TLB
