This beautiful houseplant is also known as the prayer plant because its leaves burst into life in the morning before closing again in the evening, just like praying hands. A striking botanical that likes the shade and will make a real statement in your indoor jungle.

I’ve got beautiful patterned leaves which move up and down like praying hands.
The leaves of the Calathea are a beautiful botanical marvel that come in many styles. They can be pin-striped, rose painted or even peacock patterned. This is just one of the many reasons why the Calathea gets so much love in the houseplant world and is commonly featured as the world's most popular houseplant companions.
The Calathea, also known as the prayer plant, has a fairly mysterious background and unusual habits. The leaves on this beautiful houseplant are capable of moving their face towards the sunlight in the day and closing up at night, hence the name 'prayer plant' - because it looks just like praying hands when it closes. While this isn't always the case depending on where you keep the plant, it can offer some really interesting behaviour.
Another reason for the Calatheas popularity is its love of shade. Even though it originates in South America, a very warm climate, the Calathea spent much of its life under the dense jungles. As such it tends to like the shade rather than direct sunlight.
If you have pets, the Calathea is a great plant option because it is non-toxic. Take a look at our guide on pet-friendly plants.to find out what other houseplants are great for your furry friends.
Please note that as this is a natural Calathea mix, the variety of Calathea may vary from the photo.
