The Peperomia Watermelon is one of the most unique and distinctive houseplants. It doesn’t need too much TLC to thrive, so it’s really easy to care for. Watch it grow and flourish right before your eyes.
Did you know? The Peperomia Watermelon gets its name because the pattern on its leaves looks like the skin of a watermelon, how sweet!
Water your plant when the soil has almost dried out, avoiding the leaves. Give just enough water to make the soil slightly moist.
The Peperomia Watermelon lives under the cover of other plants in its natural habitat, so can tolerate shade but also enjoys bright to moderate light conditions, just avoid direct sunlight. This plant is also happy to sit under fluorescent lights, so makes the perfect office desk buddy.
When the air becomes dry in the summer months, mist the leaves every week or so to provide a little humidity. You could also place your plant in a bathroom or kitchen.
A light fertiliser can be used once or twice a year during the growing season, to keep your plant healthy.
The Peperomia Watermelon is considered non-toxic, so there is no need keep your plant away from children or pets.
Only water your plant once the soil has almost dried out, if you overwater your plant its leaves may appear soft and floppy and if the soil is too soggy this may cause root rot to set in.
Try to avoid placing your plant in a draught, as this may cause it to lose too much water and dry out prematurely. Direct sunlight is also too intense and will cause the leaves colours and patterns to fade. Not enough light can cause the leaves to lose their silver appearance and become a much darker green.
