Halloween Houseplants
Setting a spooky scene
With that spooky time of year coming up, how are you going to set the perfect Halloween scene in your home? We just love to pop a few pumpkins, some Autumn leaves and a few succulents together and tah dah – you have a stunning Autumn display. Add a few spiderwebs and skeletons and it shouts Halloween. We think creating a table display with a few spikey and mysterious indoor houseplants is the perfect way to celebrate the season.

Our Little Botanical team love everything about Halloween! The dress-up, the scares and of course creating a gorgeous display. We can show you how easy it is to create a simple but stunning display with some of the houseplants in our range. The spikey and trailing ones really do fit effortlessly into the spooky Halloween theme, we promise.
If you’re a perfectionist who has to have everything in place when it comes to these occasions, then you’ll want to take a look at some of our gorgeous greenery to create your very own Instagrammable display. Our Halloween houseplants will look fabulous in your displays over this holiday period and with the right care, you can continue to enjoy them in your home for many months to come.
Petrifying Houseplants

When it comes to spooky plants, there’s a few that are custom-made for the job. The Devil’s Ivy doesn’t only inspire fear by its name but also through its looks. Those spiky-edged leaves would provide the perfect backdrop for a dark and gloomy witch’s lair. The Devil’s Ivy Marble Queen boasts wonderfully variegated leaves that make for a lighter, more colourful option. And for that extra dash of added style, our Devil’s Ivy in a marble planter with a stand will provide real character as a standalone piece.
The leaf patterns of the Alocasia Polly make this guy a dramatic and interesting addition to any display or corner. Definitely, one that looks spooky by its very nature. We think this guy looks pretty fabulous just with a pumpkin or two. So where are you going to put yours?

With so many to choose from, we reckon the Sanseveria Snake Plant with its rough and pointy leaves, make for a striking and ominous look. We suggest that by using a lamp near this specimen you can fling stretching shadows across a room to create the perfect menacing illusion.
Much like its sibling, the Sanseveria Spikey has a similarly imposing aesthetic. We think these green beauties work well as a pair and the Air-purifying Sanseveria selection might well be the perfect option for Halloween-themed houseplants.
To find out how to best look after the Sanseveria, take a look at our dedicated post to caring for this plant.
Trailing Terrors

While traditional houseplants are often the go-to option, sometimes it’s better to think outside the box. Trailing houseplants offer a completely new dynamic when it comes to indoor greenery. The English Ivy mirrors the Devil’s Ivy in terms of the look of its pointed leaves, but it offers new possibilities in terms of positioning and visual effects. You could place it up high and enjoy the look of those spiny leaves trailing down on you from above. If you’re looking for the finishing touch to your spooky or Autumnal setting, the English Ivy is a great choice.

With its stripey dark purple leaves, our Tradescantia Zebrina is one of our favourite trailing plants. This deeply coloured specimen contrasts the traditional greenery of the English and Devil’s Ivy and looks fabulous with its patterned leaves. For the ultimate trailing plant goals, take a look at our Trailing plant bundle which includes a medium Peperomia Rotundifolia, a Tradescantia Zebrina and a Devil’s Ivy.
Making the most of Halloween
If you haven’t seen our selection of Crotons, you must check them out. They are so bright and colourful and come in arrays of yellows, reds and greens. They just look so Autumnal and work beautifully with an orange pumpkin and a few leaves.
We are all about celebrating at home this year; carving some pumpkins and decorating your home is the perfect way to celebrate and make the most of this fabulous October holiday.
With some imagination and experimentation, it’s super easy to create a stunning display with our range of houseplants. The perfect companions to a few pumpkins taking your living room up a notch to the next level of spookiness.

Make sure you take photos of your Halloween houseplants playing their role in your Autumn and Halloween displays and tag us @thelittlebotanical. We’d love to see them in action this Halloween!
